Cure Report

Growing up is hard enough without cancer™

The CURE Report is published to provide support for the families of children with cancer, as well as to educate the general public about these childhood diseases and CURE's programs.

CURE was founded in 1975, when barely three out of ten children with cancer survived. At that time, a group of dedicated parents and Dr. Abdel Ragab, then Emory University's director of pediatric oncology, dreamed of a future when research would yield answers to end the scourge of cancer. Today, other dedicated physicians continue that dream.

CURE's mission is to fund cancer research and offer support programs and love to cancer-stricken children and their families. More than half of CURE's financial resources are devoted to scientific endeavors- understanding and stopping cancer cell growth in the lab which leads to more effective clinical treatments for the growing number of sick children.

But children fighting cancer need more than medical care. They also need unconditional love and acceptance to cope with their illness. CURE's patient support programs help restore laughter to young hearts and heal the wounded spirits of children undergoing difficult and often painful cancer treatments.

CURE also reaches out to parents and siblings to ease the overwhelming emotional burdens families endure. Educational events, celebrations, peer networking, bereavement support and assistance during clinic visits all are part of CURE's mission.

Today, thanks to clinical and laboratory research, an average of seven out of ten children with cancer survive. But cancer still kills more children than any other disease. With new diagnoses of childhood cancer reaching epidemic numbers, funding this critical research is now more important than ever.
