Each year, over 600 million ink cartridges are consumed in the United States. A small fraction of empty ink cartridges are recycled, but many more end up in landfills. Leaking ink from used cartridges can pollute the environment, and the plastic they're made of will take many generations to decompose. Up to three quarts of oil are needed to produce a single printer cartridge.
Cell phone recycling is also important. Cell phones contain materials which are harmless during their usable life, but become a potentially toxic carcinogenic hazard to our environment when disposed of improperly. In addition, precious metals, flame retardant plastics, glass, and other materials are unclaimed for reuse when cell phones are thrown away.
Surely we can do better.
CURE Recycling collects empty inkjets, and used cell phones from consumers. These ink cartridges and cell phones are inspected and recycled to be used again. The result is less pollution for our environment, less consumption of oil, and smarter use of our resources.
Our recycling efforts support CURE Childhood Cancer. CURE was founded in 1975 as a non-profit organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through research, education and support of patients and their families. Until there is a cure for every child diagnosed with cancer - CURE will be there.
